Stephen Lawrence Winwood was born in 1948 in Birmingham and was a keyboard player, guitarist, and vocalist known for his prominent distinctive soulful high tenor voice. He was an integral member of three successful bands: the Spencer Davis Group, Traffic, and Blind Faith. During the 1980s, his solo career took off and he had a number of hit singles.
