Band/Performer/Event John Peel - DJ
John Peel was a radio presenter and journalist known for his work on BBC Radio. He was the longest-serving of the original disc jockeys on BBC Radio 1, broadcasting regularly from 1967 until his death in 2004.
He was well known for the 'Peel Sessions' which usually consisted of four pieces of music pre-recorded at the BBC's studios and were famous for engaging the listener with rough and ready mixes of some of the world's most weird, wonderful and wired bands.
The Peel Sessions came about due to a restriction in what was known as 'Needle Time'. This meant a restriction on playing recorded music so to get around this band's would go into the studio to record their three or four track session, and the resulting session would go down in history as the making of the band.
